CO2 Laser Machine for Skin: A Buyer's Guide for Clinics in Pakistan

A CO2 laser machine for skin is one of the most powerful tools a dermatology or aesthetic clinic can own. It treats acne scars, wrinkles and uneven texture that many other devices cannot, and patients are willing to pay for those results.

I’m Sohail Sarwar, an electrical engineer and CEO of Dermionic Technologies. We have supplied and serviced aesthetic lasers in Pakistan since 2006. This guide is for clinic owners and doctors deciding whether to buy a CO2 laser, and which one.

First: Make Sure You Are Looking at a Medical CO2 Laser

Search for “CO2 laser machine” in Pakistan and many results are industrial CO2 laser cutters and engravers, used on wood, acrylic and fabric. These are a completely different product. They must never be used on skin, and a low price on one of them is not a bargain for a clinic.

A medical CO2 laser for skin has a fractional scanner, handpieces designed for the face and body, precise energy and density controls, and safety features for patient treatment. Always buy from a medical equipment supplier.

How a Fractional CO2 Laser Works on the Skin

A CO2 laser works at a wavelength of 10,600nm, which is strongly absorbed by water in the skin. The laser vaporises tiny columns of tissue. In fractional mode, it treats only a fraction of the skin in a grid of microscopic channels, leaving healthy skin between them.

That untreated skin speeds up healing, while the micro-channels trigger the body to produce new collagen. The result is smoother texture, softer scars and tighter-looking skin, with much shorter recovery than older fully ablative CO2 resurfacing.

What a CO2 Laser Machine for Skin Can Treat

  • Acne scars: the most requested CO2 treatment in Pakistani clinics
  • Wrinkles and fine lines, especially around the eyes and mouth
  • Surgical and injury scars
  • Uneven skin texture and enlarged pores
  • Sun damage and some types of pigmentation
  • Stretch marks, as part of a course of treatments

Many clinics also use CO2 lasers for minor surgical procedures, such as removing skin tags and warts, depending on the machine and the doctor’s training.

Downtime and Patient Expectations

CO2 is more aggressive than non-ablative lasers, so patients should be told clearly what to expect. Redness, swelling and some peeling for several days are normal, and the skin needs careful aftercare and sun protection while it heals.

Results build over the following weeks as new collagen forms, and deeper scars usually need more than one session. Setting these expectations at consultation leads to happier patients and fewer complaints.

Pakistani skin types need extra care

Darker skin types have a higher risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (temporary darkening) after CO2 treatment. Experienced operators reduce this risk with conservative settings, lower density, skin preparation and strict sun protection. Operator training matters as much as the machine.

For patients who cannot accept CO2 downtime, a non-ablative laser such as an erbium glass laser is a gentler option, with more sessions and less recovery.

New Fractional CO2 or Refurbished Lumenis?

Dermionic currently stocks two CO2 lasers. Both treat the same main conditions; the difference is brand, build and price.

If you are adding CO2 treatments for the first time, the new fractional CO2 machine lets you build demand at a lower investment. If your clinic markets itself on premium brands, the Lumenis name can support higher treatment prices.

Running Costs to Plan For

  • Preventive servicing: CO2 lasers have optics, mirrors and cooling that need regular checks to keep output stable.
  • Handpiece and lens care: scanner optics must be kept clean; damaged lenses reduce energy and cause uneven treatment.
  • Power protection: a voltage stabiliser and proper earthing protect the machine from Pakistan’s power fluctuations.
  • Aftercare products: many clinics include healing creams and sunscreen in their CO2 packages.

Questions to Ask Before You Buy

  • Is it a medical fractional CO2 laser, with a scanner and handpieces for skin?
  • What warranty is included, and who services it locally?
  • Is operator training included, especially settings for darker skin types?
  • Are spare parts and optics available in Pakistan?
  • Can I see the exact machine working, on video or in person?

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the price of a CO2 laser machine for skin in Pakistan?

At Dermionic, a new fractional CO2 laser machine costs PKR 2,400,000 and a refurbished Lumenis UltraPulse Alpha costs PKR 4,200,000 (October 2026).

Is fractional CO2 laser safe for Pakistani skin?

Yes, in trained hands. Darker skin types carry a higher risk of temporary darkening, so operators use conservative settings, skin preparation and strict sun protection.

How many sessions does a patient need?

It depends on the condition. Mild texture problems may improve after one session, while deeper acne scars usually need several sessions spaced weeks apart.

Can I use a CO2 laser cutting machine on skin?

No. Industrial CO2 cutters and engravers are not medical devices and must never be used on people.
